Devotional: Week of 6/29

Weekly Devotional Scripture:

GOD'S PURE WORD

"Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar."

– Proverbs 30:5-6 NKJV

We hear speeches and listen to opinions. And we wonder what is true and trustworthy. Looking back, we realize how many conclusions from the past have proven wrong.

But God’s Word is different. His Word is pure. Not some of it, but “every word.” There are no flaws. It is not impacted by world events, and it is eternally true – true for every person at every stage of life. His Word is packed with unshakable and tested principles.

In this context, God promises to be our shield and protector. But there are qualifications. This promise is null and void if we don’t trust Him. If we violate the principles in His Word, if we don’t focus on Him, or seek to live in harmony with Him, the promise will not hold. We also are warned not to add to His words or develop our own interpretations.

This also helps us realize our responsibility. It is possible to interpret God’s Word to conform to our personal interests or provide an interpretation that makes sense to us. To receive the benefit of God’s promises, we need to do things His way. We cannot dilute the purity of His Word through our own subjective opinions.

Today, base your life on God’s Word. Read and study the Word. Stand on His promises. Ask Him to open your eyes and give you understanding. Remember, His Word is pure.

Prayer

Father, give me understanding into Your Word. Help me to trust You.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
